Daniel Fast

The Bible presents fasting as something that is good, profitable and beneficial although God does not require or demand it of Christians. The book of Acts records believers fasting before they made important decisions (Acts 13:2 & 14:23) and fasting and prayer are often linked together (Luke 2:37 & 5:33). Too often, the focus of fasting is on the lack of food. Instead, the purpose of fasting should be to take our eyes off the things of this world to focus completely on God. By taking our eyes off ourselves, we can more successfully turn our attention to Christ. Fasting is a way to demonstrate to God, and to ourselves, that we are serious about our relationship with Him. Fasting changes us, not God. Fasting is not a way to get God to do what we want, but a way to help us gain a new perspective and a renewed reliance upon God.

Who:

We are asking the Chestnut Mountain Church community to participate in the fast and join us as we seek God during this exciting season.

When:

  • From Sunday, January 15th, 6pm: Begin the “Daniel Fast”
  • To Sunday, February 5th at 12pm: Break the “Daniel Fast”

What:

The Daniel Fast is a partial fast, which means that we will eliminate some common things from our daily diet, but will have generous options available. We will focus on eating fruits and vegetables that are pure and simple. A list of foods to eat and foods to avoid can be found on the websites in the Resources section below. (*If you have any known medical conditions or suspect such conditions, consult your doctor before beginning the fast.)

How:

This fast will require some preparation, as most meals will be made from scratch.

Resources:

There are multiple online resources available for the Daniel Fast. Here are just a few.
